Marrakech, Morocco 11.1.2013

Posted by on November 1, 2013

We’re in Africa! We arrived in Morocco this afternoon. We’re staying at Riad Dar Eliane. A riad is a guesthouse with rooms that surround a courtyard that opens to the sky.  Our riad is located in medina of Marrakech – the ancient walled city.

I arranged for transportation to deliver us to the riad. A driver who only spoke Arabic and French met us outside the customs hall and dropped us off just inside the city walls. A man with a hand cart took our bags and navigated narrow cobblestone streets and children kicking soccer balls. We followed him past vegetable vendors and donkeys pulling carts to a dead end. It was looking pretty sketchy for a minute until the housekeeper opened the door to the riad. It was absolutely beautiful and quiet inside.
