I was so excited to visit Santorini! This is the Greek island that you always see pictures of in travel brochures – white-washed houses and blue-domed churches. The island is an ancient volcanic caldera and towns are perched on the edge of steep cliffs 900 feet above the sea. The port of Fira is located at the top of a cliff, so our ship anchored in the bay and we were shuttled to the pier. When I first saw the island it looked like there was snow on the cliffs, but it was actually the bright white buildings!<\/p>\n

There are three ways to get from the pier to the town of Fira – ride the gondola, climb 588 steps, or\u00a0ride a donkey. We rode the gondola up and donkeys down. We rented a car and explored the island on our own. There is one main road circling the island, so you can’t get lost if you keep the ocean on your left or right.<\/p>\n
