We picked up our rental car and took the ferry to Gozo this morning. We’ve driven in some pretty crazy places, so I thought my husband would like the challenge of driving here. However the narrow streets combined with driving on the wrong side of the car and wrong side of the road and shifting with his left hand is really stressing him out. GPS is a must on these crazy roads – you couldn’t possibly keep up with just a road map.
Gozo is another island just 20 minutes by ferry from the main island of Malta. It’s much quieter and more rural, and restaurants close by 8:30pm. Some people take a day trip, but I wanted to see more of the island and decided to stay for two nights. The process of taking a car on the ferry was super easy. We followed the signs from Valletta to the northern port of Cirkewwa. Cars were loading as we approached the port, so we joined the line and drove on to the ferry. We didn’t have to worry about tickets since you only pay when you return to Malta.
Most accommodations on the island are small B&Bs or family-run inns. We’re staying at Gozo Tranquility B&B in Xaghra, which is owned by a couple from Britain. A fresh-cooked breakfast is included each morning. I really wish it were warmer because the pool looks amazing!
