I chose Sestri Levante as our base for exploring the Italian Riviera. It has great beaches on the Mediterranean, oceanfront hotels and restaurants, and lots of gelato. The weather is beautiful – sunny and 70 – but it’s fairly quiet since it’s still spring. You can tell the shops, restaurants, and beach clubs are getting ready for the summer busy season. The Bay of Silence below has a great bay for swimming and is located next to Old Town.
Cinque Terre is a few minutes to the east, and Portofino, Genoa, and Santa Margherita Ligure are just to the west. We’ll be traveling to those towns in the next few days.
