I have sent so many happy clients to Costa Rica that I thought I’d better check it out for myself! I’ve started my trip at Dreams Las Mareas, on the Pacific northwest coast. Dreams Las Mareas is a family-friendly all-inclusive resort.
Our room category is Preferred Club Junior Suite Tropical View. The room is very large with a king bed and private balcony with large jacuzzi and seating area. The bathroom area is large, but not the most private. It is separated from the sleeping area by a move-able curtain with the toilet on one side and the shower on the other.
We had breakfast in World Cafe Buffet, which was very good. They had a made-to-order omelette station, Costa Rican breakfast items like rice, beans, and plantains, and kid’s area with french toast sticks and cereal. Orange juice and champagne were on ice for mimosas, and tomato juice, vodka, and veggies were ready for Bloody Marys.
Lunch at the Bare Foot Grill by the pool was simple but good. Hamburgers, quesadillas, hot dogs, fajitas, and fries were cooked to order at the grill. Room service and casual dining at specialty restaurants were available, too.
Our favorite dinner restaurants were at Portofino for Italian and Himitsu for Asian. The service was amazing – everyone was very friendly and efficient.
The beaches here remind me of those on the Big Island of Hawaii. Due to many volcanoes, many beaches have black sand. The sand is very fine and the water is really warm, but it almost felt like we were in a lake since I couldn’t see my toes on the bottom.
The resort offers activities throughout the day such as yoga, rifle shooting, beach volleyball and soccer. Nightly entertainment includes a dive-in movie, Musical Quiz Show, and a DJ in the nightclub.
