We drove from Reykjavik to the Snaefellsnes Peninsula today. Our first stop was the Gerduberg Basalt Columns. When we first saw them from the road, my family was underwhelmed but we had fun hiking and climbing around the columns. The drive from Reykjavik took about an hour and 45 minutes.

Another 45 minutes down the road was Budakirkja, probably one of the most photographed churches in Iceland. It is located in lava field with the coast on one side and Snaefellsjokull glacier on the other. We had a great time getting out of the car and hiking past the cemetery to the black sand beach.

We drove north about 35 minutes on the peninsula to Kirkjufell mountain and Kirkjufellsfoss waterfall. Kirkjufell is one of the most famous mountains in Iceland. It was featured in the movie The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and Game of Thrones.

We spent the night in Stykkisholmur, a really pretty seaside town on the northern coast of the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. Food trucks are very popular in Iceland, and there were several near the marina. Our choices were lamb burgers, hot dogs, and fish and chips.
